Explore Hub Concept-Revised
General Procedures:
(1)
Each week select one activity from the Explorer Hub options (close readers; word
detectives; infotrekkers; producers; publishers) to model and implement with
all the children. See blogspot Centers for a list of possible activities.
(2)
Teach the
activity to the whole group.
(3)
Divide the class
into small groups and implement the activity.
(4)
After 4 weeks,
implement two or more different activities with small groups of students if
possible.

Week 1: Select an activity from the Hub options; model and
implement with all the children who are organized into small groups (e.g.,
Buddy read the book & complete a
worksheet OR make a semantic map or word cloud OR write a summary)

Week 1: Teach one app (e.g., Doodlebuddy); select an
activity from the Hub that all the children will do in small groups
|
|
Week 2: Select a different activity from the Hub (e.g.,
make a concept of definition map OR draw and label a picture); implement in
small groups
|
Week 2: Teach a new app (e.g., Show Me); select an
activity from the Hub and implement in small groups.

Week 3: Select a different activity from the Hub (e.g.,
make a PAVE; read a topic-related book & take notes; make a word mobile)

Week 3: Teach a new app (e.g., My Story); select an
activity from the Hub and implement in small groups.

Week 4: Select a different activity from the Hub (e.g.,
making a word or picture dictionary)

Week 4: Teach a new app (e.g., audioboo); select an
activity from the Hub and implement in small groups.

Week 5: Select 2 or more activities (may be repeats);
implement with small groups

Week 5: Use 1-2 apps; implement two different activities
with small groups

Week 6: Select 3 or more activities (may be repeats);
